About Elizabeth Munro
Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Elizabeth Munro began her discovery of clay at the tender age of 5 by taking an introductory pottery course for children at the University of New Brunswick.
Growing up in the maritimes Elizabeth spent her early years dabbling in creative pursuits including figure skating and dance. Following her post secondary education with an arts degree from Dalhousie University and art courses at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, Elizabeth focused her creative energy on Interior design.
She reconnected to her earlier interest in pottery by taking an introductory pottery class with her sister at a local community recreation centre. Elizabeth began the process to explore the magic and endless possibilities in working with clay. She found working with clay provided a blank canvas providing endless possibilities in the use of colour, form, design and functionality. Not only is work with clay creative, it is also very useful.
Beginning with whimiscal designs which were inspired by Alice in Wonderland, Elizabeth continued to expand and evolve as an artist through her constant desire to create new designs using various forms, materials and colour.
She began to sell her work at the popular "Halifax Farmers Market". This venue provided her the opportunity to hone her skills, sell her designs and explore new ideas as her creative expression evolved..
Moving to Ontario and settling in Kingston, Elizabeth continued to pursue her work and become involved in the local Pottery Guild. Through exposure to larger venues and shows, she continued to thrive and expand her work to include porcelain and to develop her own sophisticated contemporary style.
Elizabeth began showing her work at galleries and shows in Ontario which have included: The Toronto Outdoor Art Show, Signature Shows in Ottawa and Toronto, and the One of a kind Show held in Toronto. The Snap Dragon Gallery in Ottawa often features her work. Drawn to the use of colour, Elizabeth continues to create innovative patterns and styles which appeal to collectors and pottery enthusiasts.
In 2003 Elizabeth opened her first working studio and shop in Russell, south of Ottawa. This new location provides her with a base to create and sell her work.
In 2004 Elizabeth began work to design functional pottery and dishware for Canadian Company Gift Craft, which has taken her signature designs to be reproduced and sold throughout North America. Elizabeth has produced four distinct designs featuring more than 200 individual and unique pieces which have been enthusiastically received accross North America.
Today Elizabeth continues to explore her creativity through design and moving to various mediums to express her creativity.
